Living the life dominion
(Gen 1:26) And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion (authority) over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Points to ponder:
- Man was created and not evolved (evolution)
- Man was created in the image of God (representation) – Although we are not omnipresent (ever present), omniscient (all knowing) and omnipotent (almighty, invincible)
- Man was created to dominate not one another but the earth
(Heb 2:5) For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.
(Heb 2:6) But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him?
(Heb 2:7) Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:
(Heb 2:8) Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.
(Heb 2:9) But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
Jesus came to demonstrate to us how to live the life of dominion. Throughout the new testament we see how he dominated sin, sickness, lack, natural laws and many other created things. He even walked on water
This is how (in dominion) God had intended for man to walk before sin. i.e.
Notice that Demons and foul spirits were not mentioned here because this was before the fall.
God gave Adam dominion over the whole earth (Genesis 1:26). Adam was in charge, but when he obeyed the serpent, then he became a slave of Satan. “You are slaves to the one you obey” (Romans 6:16).
So when Adam sinned he lost his authority and dominion over the world; and, instead, Satan took it. Satan then had dominion over Adam that’s why it seem as if people are under the dominion of lack, poverty and sickness, BUT in the beginning it was not so.
Jesus stripped Satan of his authority over mankind. He needed to do this because the first man, Adam, handed over his authority to Satan.
This text in Hebrew denotes that God had placed within man a representation of his own function. It is our responsibility to live our lives as representatives of God, acting in the same manner as he would.
By saying “let them rule,” He was for the most part locking Himself out of the earth as a spirit being without a body.
- This is why God will not do anything on earth without the cooperation of a human.
- Man is God’s legal agency and access to earth.
When God said “Let them rule” He was choosing to be active / involved on earth affairs only when man gives Him permission to be since He ceded /yielded /relinquished/ surrendered that authority on us. If humans want to see something happen, we have to allow or forbid it to happen.
- Without God we cannot do anything.
- Without us God chose not to do things here on earth for the most part
What does dominion mean? It means “control, rule, reign, authority, possession.” Yes! You are in control! So, if man has control, God no longer has it.
He did not say, “Let us share dominion with man.” He said, “Let them (man) have dominion.” Where is the dominion? If man has dominion, then God does not; unless I let Him by permission – through prayer.
Jesus had to take the form of man in order to operate and dominate here on earth.
Jesus came on earth to demonstrate (living the life of dominion here on earth) the dominion referred to in Genesis.
“The value of authority is based on the one backing it” A little when he sees his elder brother. We are the authorized dealers of the power of God here on earth.
NOW – THIS WEEK:
Matthew 18:18-19New King James Version (NKJV)
18 “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind (forbid) on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
19 “Again I say[a] to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.
God is waiting on us to set in things in motion and we are instead waiting on God.
In the earth realm we need to dominate, rule, reign
Matthew 18:18-20The Message (MSG)
19-20 “When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action. And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I’ll be there.”
Examples of how the kingdom works:
We dominate by prayer, faith and the word.
(Mat 9:35) And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
(Mat 9:36) But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
(Mat 9:37) Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
(Mat 9:38) Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
Matthew 9:36-38New Living Translation (NLT)
36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. 38 So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”
So, God cannot do anything in this earth unless we let Him. And the way we let Him or give Him permission is through prayer.
When we invite Him into our situation through prayer and faith, we give Him the opportunity and the permission once again to get involved in this earth realm on our behalf.
James 5:17-19New International Version (NIV)
17 Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.18 Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.
1 Kings 18:36-38New Living Translation (NLT)
36 At the usual time for offering the evening sacrifice, Elijah the prophet walked up to the altar and prayed, “O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,[a] prove today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant. Prove that I have done all this at your command. 37 O Lord, answer me! Answer me so these people will know that you, O Lord, are God and that you have brought them back to yourself.”
38 Immediately the fire of the Lord flashed down from heaven and burned up the young bull, the wood, the stones, and the dust. It even licked up all the water in the trench!
John 14:12-14Amplified Bible (AMP)
12 I assure you and most solemnly say to you, anyone who believes in Me [as Savior] will also do the things that I do; and he will do even greater things than these [in extent and outreach], because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in My name [[a]as My representative], this I will do, so that the Father may be glorified and celebrated in the Son. 14 If you ask Me anything in My name [as My representative], I will do it.
